Charlie's Place Restaurant & Lounge | Our Story

A downtown Niantic institution
Charlie's has been feeding the village of Niantic from a historic building on Main Street for generations — In 2023 Rod Cornish, the owner of the popular and well loved Hot Rod Cafe in New London; became the new owner - bringing over excellent expertise and experience, adding to the almost 20 years of being a Niantic staple. This move has made Charlie’s Place even more special - a place where staff and guests know you by name.

Rooted in Main Street
Charlie's sits in a historic building at the heart of Niantic, a couple blocks from downtown, a familiar fixture for anyone who's lived here long. Many guests remember this building from generations ago, having worked for any one of the former owners. The entire staff is welcoming, friendly and efficient- some having been there for almost 20 years; you are sure to find a familiar face. Charlie’s is the “home away from home” in this quaint little vacation town; where visitors and locals alike find a place to catch up and wind down.

Made in house with care
The kitchen hand-breads every protein, makes the creamy garlic and pasta sauces in-house, and pulls fresh-baked Raspberry Cheesecake from the oven. The lead kitchen staff, including the Chef have been behind the culinary scene of Charlie’s Place for almost two decades. That kind of care shows up on the plate- it’s why people keep coming back.

Weekly Prime Rib Nights
Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the kitchen slow-roasts prime rib in-house — a tradition that draws regulars from across New London County. It sells out, so come early. Available at 4:30 until it's gone!

Two sides, one welcome
The restaurant side is for family gatherings and birthday dinners; the lounge is where happy hour starts at 3 PM and game night meet ups. Both feel like Charlie's.

There's always a reason to come
Lunch, dinner, happy hour, private events — the calendar at Charlie's stays full because the neighborhood keeps showing up. Pull up a chair and see what the fuss is about.
